Bug Off

This project was inspired by a friend’s inability to focus on tasks due to procrastination. Doomscrolling kept them from completing certain projects in a timely, stress-free manner.

Bug Off is a UX based project designed to keep users off their phones to prevent procrastination via doomscrolling or other smartphone distractions.

USER RESEARCH

Building a Persona

This project required a deep understanding of my audience-- mainly the specific ‘persona’ I was designing for. I created an indentity and habit sheet that tracked their thoughts and needs surrounding procrastination.

THE CONCEPT

An App to Annoy You

Bug Off is an anti-procrastination app designed to force you off your phone through deterrants. There are two final modes to choose from (grow was rejected to keep this application from being too similar to a game).

In ‘Bug Me’ mode, the user chooses a low-stakes option to prevent procrastination. They set a timer for how long this mode is turned on. As the user is on their phone, bug icons pop up and keep them from interacting with other apps or functions while they’re supposed to be focusing on other tasks.

‘Intense Focus’ is a higher-stakes option when a user can’t afford distractions. They set a time for how long this mode is active, and then they select a non-profit for donations. The function of this option is to motivate the user to stay off their phone because the longer they stay on it, the more of their funds are withdrawn and donated to the non-profit of their choice.
